Wilson Family History
Oakwood Lineage
Henry J. and Priscilla Oakwood were the parents of William Oakwood, who married Anna Longstreth (1859–1940), daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Boord Longstreth. Anna’s brothers were Samuel B. and Elijah Newton Longstreth.
William Oakwood passed away in 1922, and both he and Anna are buried in Oakwood Cemetery. They had the following children:

Wilson Lineage
James Wilson (1856–?) married Nancy Jane Mason (1863–1956). In later years, they resided in a large house at the northwest corner of Scott and Collett Street, a building that had once served as a hotel.
James and Nancy’s children included:

Perry Leneve Wilson & Grace Oakwood
Perry Leneve Wilson was born June 10, 1893, and passed away July 5, 1965. He was known as a likeable character, affectionately nicknamed “Pudge” by his friends.
On August 5, 1914, Perry married Grace Oakwood (born September 7, 1893; died April 4, 1970). They are buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Their children were:

Joseph Brandon & Wilma Lucille Wilson
Joseph Brandon was born July 1, 1914, and married Wilma Lucille Wilson on November 2, 1939. Wilma was born February 4, 1917, in Oakwood, where she attended Oakwood Grade School and Oakwood High School.
Joe attended Fairmount High School, and together they lived at 201 North Oakwood Street until Joe’s passing on February 7, 1987. Wilma later moved to 30 Pattie Drive and is an active member of the Oakwood Methodist Church.
Joe and Wilma’s children include:
- Jo Ann (Wallace) (born February 23, 1941)
- Twins Karen Jean (Baer) & Sharon Jane (Scott) (born August 18, 1942)
- Sally Sue (Heckler) (born November 8, 1946)
ULMER
James Ulmer was born in 1924 and worked as a coal miner. He married Doris Lee in 1947. They had four children who attended Oakwood schools. James was active in the United Mine Workers and local community groups.
VAUGHN
Robert Vaughn was born in 1930 and served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a mechanic and truck driver.
He married Eleanor Smith in 1953. They raised three children. Robert was involved in veterans’ organizations and community service.
WALKER
Charles Walker was born in 1925 and worked as a farmer near Oakwood. He married Mildred Jones in 1948. They had six children and were active in the Farm Bureau and local church.
WARD
Edward Ward was born in 1927 and worked as a coal miner. He married Betty Clark in 1950. They had four children and were members of the United Mine Workers and the Oakwood community.
WASHINGTON
Thomas Washington was born in 1930 and worked as a carpenter. He married Helen Moore in 1952. They raised three children and were active in church and civic groups.
WATSON
Frank Watson was born in 1922 and worked as a mechanic. He married Anna Davis in 1946. They had five children who attended Oakwood schools. Frank was involved in community service and local organizations.
WEBB
George Webb was born in 1925 and served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a truck driver after the war.
He married Louise Taylor in 1950. They raised four children and were active in veterans’ groups and the community.
